1 For Me // 1 For You | May 2011

I have this folder… A virtual folder of images on my desktop labeled “Dream-Home Inspiration.” It’s white-washed floors and white brick accent walls. It’s an L-shaped sofa in the lightest shade of gray possible, and white built-in shelving. It’s crown molding and wainscoting in every room. In white. And it’s light, light, and more light spilling in through oversized windows on every wall.. If you haven’t noticed, I basically want an all-white house. Clean and simple and clutter-free. The complete antithesis of our current home. :) So in an effort to get the ball rolling on my dream home, I’ve begun accumulating all things white. I’ve had my eye on this month’s 1 For Me // 1 For You for quite some time. So what better an opportunity for me AND you, then to get… One for me. And one for you. From West Elm! :) More on that in a bit. But first? A review of how this 1 For Me // 1 For You thing works…

  • What is it? It’s simple really.. If I have one of something that I find functional, fashionable, or just plain fun, I send one of you a duplicate!
  • Who can enter? Anyone and everyone who reads this blog. Whether you’re a friend, client, past client, future client, or random reader, enter away! (Please see the not-so-fine print below for full rules and restrictions!)
  • How long do I have to enter? You’ll have until next Saturday, May 7th at midnight CST to enter. The winner will be chosen at random using the random number generator at Random.org and announced the next morning (always the second Sunday of the month).
  • Yay! How do I get my shot at winning? You must comment (and answer the specific question asked at the end of the post) on this 1 For Me // 1 For You post to enter. Comments left via Facebook, Twitter or elsewhere will not be taken into consideration.
  • But why? Because giveaways are fun. And so are dream homes. :)

This month’s 1 For Me // 1 For You item is actually a 3 For Me // 3 For You. Because you can clearly never have enough white. Introducing: the Pure White Ceramic Vase Collection from West Elm, “a shapely landscape in snow-white ceramic.” I am in love with the finish, the color (or lack-there-of), and the lines of these three vases – the Bottle, Bead, and Carafe from left to right.

And now some time in the spotlight for each vase individually. :)

I am quite obviously not a floral designer. But the best part is that these still look fabulous all by their lonesome.

And there you have it. Mine, and the representation of what could soon be yours. Because there ain’t NO way I’m attempting to ship three fragile, ceramic vases by myself. I’ll leave that to the good old packers and drop-shippers at WestElm.com. :)

Question to enter: How would you describe YOUR dream home? Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!

Not-so-fine print: Only one entry allowed per person. All contestants must live within the continental United States and must be able to provide a valid mailing address upon winning. I am not responsible for items that are lost, stolen or damaged during shipment. The winner will have 24 hours to contact me and redeem the item or a new winner will be chosen.

Karina Colorado - My dream home is super cozy!! The place where people want to meet up to just hang out and play Cranium. It has a spacious kitchen so I can expand my cooking happy and feed all the cozy people. It has lots of windows and when you look out you do NOT see your neighbor’s air conditioning unit. Soon.

  • May 1, 2011 - 2:14 PM

Andi S - My dream home will be quite simply, shabby chic. That way I can bring home anything I love and it will all work together beautifully. It’s going to have lots of wall space for art and lots of storage space for craft and sewing supplies and everything else that needs a hidey-hole.

  • May 1, 2011 - 2:17 PM

Kasey - Simple, clean, and cozy! And of course, some photos of my two lovable dogs on the wall for art!

Jess S - My dream home is very contemporary with a Spanish/Mediterranean-feel to it (open floor plan, high ceilings, lots of windows, stucco exterior, lots of arches, large outdoor entertaining areas, etc.). Just thinking about it makes me happy. :-) Happy May!

Jennefer Wilson - My dream home is a home where the door opens and your nose is filled with the smell of home cooked warmth and memories. You know, like the smell of Christmas, year round! It allows for clutter, but knows where everything really belongs. It’s clean lines and surfaces are accompanied by pops of color and fluffy soft places to land. Anthropologie is jealous of my dream home, and so is Nate Berkus. Iti s practical, whimsy and livable. But more than this, it is a loving place that anyone can call home.

Patricia K - Here goes the deep…but truth :) My dream home is in progress. It is filled with the memories and potential that has surrounded my life. It holds a husband who loves me dearly and children that represent those ideals God has given me to impose lovingly on them. It contains the hard work of my family, to continuously progress it’s physical construction and to keep it neat and tidy (as much as possible). Most importantly it is filled with love, mistakes, forgiveness, integrity and lots of PICTURES!!!

Maniya - I really don’t have a vision of a dream home. I know what I like but I don’t know if it all exists somewhere out there. I love the look of a classic traditional look draped in the deepest hues available but then I also love the edgy modern look where things are at there best simple. Nonetheless, this dream home won’t be a “dream home” unless I’m near my family. I can’t live without those gals and guys!

I definitely want to be surrounded by canvassed and framed art. I want my entire dining room to be different from the rest of the home with an antique twist. I want a large oak wood dining table and chairs. I want to fill the walls with my hometown (sharon springs!) Photos and memorabilia! I will call this my Sharon Room! • May 7, 2011 - 11:29 AM

Jessamy - My dream home would be a large colonial with huge spacious room. The living area would have a nice open floor plan. My bedroom would be large enough for a reading nook with a fireplace. There would be a spare room just for me and all my crafts, and a large room for hubbies photography studio. The house would be decorated my Alyse cause she has the best style I’ve ever seen. There would be large flowering trees all gorgeously landscaping a massive yard of thick grass with a babbling brook running through the edge and a heated in-ground pool. Oh the dreams!!!

  • May 7, 2011 - 4:39 PM

Missy - A home by the sea. A quaint Cape Cod home with gray cedar siding and hydrangea bushes out front. Oversized windows inside to let lots of natural light in. Clean, white crown molding and wainscoating for the walls and hardwood floors. A large kitchen table where family and friends gather. A coastal color palette that consists of pale shades of blue and gray. An airy feel and accents that bring the sky and the sea indoors. Fresh flowers, family photos, vingtage cameras and antiques. A sunroom. A practical home – one that is lived in and given character by a loving husband, happy kids, and a big dog. Plus a deck out back for grilling!
