It’s Tuesday! And this 80th Tidbit Tuesday comes to you straight from the Louis Armstrong airport in New Orleans. Or N’awlins, as the locals say. We’ve spent the better part of four days here, and as fabulous as it has been, my heart is exploding at the thought of reuniting with my baby dog in a few short hours, and the leftover chocolate cake waiting for me in the fridge. But first, some tidbits about what has been one long and crazy fun week.
Last Thursday was Dylan’s birthday. And in honor of this very important day, I whipped up a construction paper pennant banner, complete with gel-penned doodles and the letters “H-A-P-P-Y-B-I-R-T-H-D-A-Y.” Something tells me Dylan wasn’t as impressed by my skillz as I was. But at the very least, I was resourceful – as I used hole-punch scraps from the banner as confetti surrounding his breakfast that morning. Fried eggs over garlic-sauteed spinach over ricotta cheese over toasted French baguette, with a little green onion for garnishing. It was a little bit of a make-it-as-you-go recipe on my part, but it was good!
Continuing with the birthday celebrations, I also made a chocolate cake with just enough bad-for-you ingredients to hit the spot without going overboard. Sully and I insisted on singing the Happy Birthday song to Dylan. And then Dylan made a wish. I’m pretty sure that wish was to go see X-Men: First Class. Or maybe he’d already planned on it, and his wish was that I would actually like it. Well let me tell you, those birthday wishes WORK. This movie absolutely blew my mind, and I’ve been left wanting a mutant power of my own ever since. Like the power to make chocolate cake calories not count.
On Friday, we left for New Orleans at 8:30PM. We arrived less than an hour later. Our plane wasn’t even given the option of turning on our ‘acceptable electronic devices,’ the flight was that short. And though a longer picture-filled post will show up on the blog pretty soon, a quick recap would go something like this: we ate WAY more than our stomachs had room for, on just about every meal-occasion; we learned some intense NOLA history; and got some very interesting tan lines. And there is so much more where that came from…
Song of the Week: Intro by The xx. I am positive you’ve heard this song before in some form or another. Likely in an Apolo Anton Ohno commercial. But to experience Intro in its full glory, you muuust blast it in your car while fist pumping and doing that wavy up/down motion of your hand thing out your window.
I’ll leave you now with a teeny taste of our trip to N’awlins. Pun intended. :) Check back for more sometime this week!
Happy Tuesday!!
