The past few weeks have been LONG.. It’s not that each day spent at home with our family and friends wasn’t everything we’d hoped for… But if I’ve learned anything from our recent holiday travels, it is this: To travel is to suffer exhaustion. And it’s during times like these that I’m reminded not to take my job for granted. You know.. The job that lets me work from my bed all day long. And dare I say it.. Wait until 10AM to brush my teeth. Gross, but true. :)
Dylan and I saw True Grit the other night, and it was the least Hollywood-like film I’ve ever seen. That is to say, it was incredible and is highly recommended.
I’ve always been a sucker for informercials. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve tried convincing my mom that we NEEDED that bowl that drains water from pasta AND doubles as a serving dish. (Yes, I know. It’s the little things..) Surprisingly so, I have never actually caved in to informercial temptation. That is, until last night… That darned informercial for the Wonder File came on yet AGAIN. And before you knew it, there was no stopping me. :)
On our connecting flight home from Baltimore to Houston, we sat in front of a young father and his two little boys Georgie and Stewart. His two other sons, Oliver and Charlie, were sitting a few rows up. So while I feel slightly creepy for blogging about them all, I just had to share their adorable names! Needless to say, I asked Dylan what he thought of naming our sons Georgie, Stewart, Oliver or Charlie. He then reminded me that the only reason we are naming our dog Sullivan is because he refuses to name his SON Sullivan. Point taken..
Have you checked out January’s 1 For Me // 1 For You yet? If you like coffee, cocoa or tea, I suggest you don’t miss it! ;)
It happens every year. You celebrate Christmas Eve. Then Christmas. Then New Year’s Eve. Then New Year’s Day. And then what? Four holidays in the span of nine days can really make you feel down considering the remaining less-than-celebratory 356 days of the year.. But it’s around this same time that I realize the fun ain’t over! AKA, the birthday countdown begins! We’re now at 26 days and counting! ;)
Song of the Week: The Mixed Tape by Jack’s Mannequin. SUPER old-school. :) But SO good! I was pleasantly surprised to find this song playing on the radio this morning as I drove Dylan to work. He was then pleasantly surprised to be serenaded by yours truly.
Dylan and I are all caught up on every. single. one. of our favorite shows. Which is actually a terribly sad thing as much as it is terribly great. Which brings me to… Parks and Recreation is amazing, and I’m not sure how I lived without it for oh so long.
Just five more days until little Sully is home with us! We’ve gotten him a crate, a gate, a puppy bed, a big dog bed, water/food dishes, urine stain remover (remember our white rug and couches?), and plenty of new toys! I think I literally stare at his picture every 10 minutes or so. He’s so long-awaited for. And we are both SO excited to have him in our little family. :) With that said, we know the whole puppy stage can be challenging with training and such. Might y’all have any puppy/training tips to share? We’d LOVE to hear ’em!
I leave you with a couple of Sully’s new friends. Because posts without pictures are lame. And these guys are cute! Name suggestions are also welcome… But I’m thinking I’ll go with Georgie and Stewart. :)
Happy Tuesday! (Come back Thursday for an update on my 101 in 1001 list! I’ve accomplished about a quarter of my goals thus far, and I’m stoked. :)
Aly - Your pictures of Sully are so adorable! The puppy stage is challenging but all worth it. Soak it in, when you get frustrated just look at that cute face, and take lots of pictures because it goes by fast. Puppy classes are great, they don’t feel like a lot is accomplished but its socialization and just learning how to communicate with your pup. We loved Rover Oaks Houston classes. So excited for you! We’ll have to get together and have doggy play dates when Sully gets a little older :)
Noël - Very cute toys!!!!!!!:)
Molly - Puppy advice: Remember that he is just a dog and not your actual child. It will make everything easier, and you’ll soon figure out what everything means :)
Stephanie - I’m very excited for you! Puppies are fun (but challenging!) As for crate training if you have problems with him doing his business in the crate (they’re not supposed to do such a thing but it happens!) spread his food out on the bottom of the crate. I had the most AWFUL time with my yellow lab going in the crate but we did this and he has never done it again! Patience is the most important virtue for them and believe me, you are going to be tested alot!!
Jess Z. - So- as much as I refused to see it over Christmas break with my family, I had little choice but to see True Grit with our friends on New Year’s Day… and I surprisingly loved it! It definitely wasn’t what I expected! And while I did have to shield my eyes when they were in that small cabin and those two guys got killed and there were fingers ON THE TABLE, I loved the story line… and that little girl?! Wow, I was stunned. Never will I be like her, even when I’m old and in my 80s.
And because I can’t go one post without saying the word “twins”… I was AMAZED by that pasta-strainer-turned-serving-bowl contraption. I’m actually going to find it at CVS, in the “As Seen on TV” isle.
Hugs from me, Ryan and Clem to you, Dylan and soon to be baby Sully!
