I remember it so clearly. The day everything changed… I was curled up in a ball on the couch. Dad was in the office, and mom must have been out shopping. Cam was in school, and Lorae was living in NYC. Essentially, I was alone. In our living room. One hot mess in a fetal position.. I found myself increasingly frustrated by the tears piling up on the sides of my nostrils and eventually seeping into my ears. (Isn’t that the worst?) I sobbed into my phone, and on the other end? My boyfriend – all too used to the dramatics that came with dating a former thespian, artist, middle child. You know.. Me. :)
His name was Dylan. And he worked for a company that could assign him to a year-long project in Kalamazoo at the drop of a hat. Sure, they’d always fly him back on weekends, but it was anything but easy for either of us. A year into the relationship there had been talk of marriage, but as it were, engagement was still a good half-year off. – Did you catch that? “As it were.” Sometimes, I impress myself… ;) – Still, on this day, I realized the likelihood that I’d someday be married to a man who’d live in a hotel in Kalamazoo while I stayed home. Alone.
Long story short(er), that day ended up being one of the most pivotal in my life. I am a wedding photographer because I wanted to marry that boy and follow his lead. And while some might say that’s not particularly the best way to plan a career, I’m not ashamed of it. I loved Dylan. I loved weddings. I loved people. And my BA in photojournalism didn’t hurt either. It was almost common sense. Still, I had very little idea of the impact this decision would have on us years later.
Today.. I am a wedding photographer because I’m eternally smitten with creamy, buttery light, in-between-moments, and our amazing clients who simply love like we do. Today, I have no doubt that this is what I’m meant to be doing. And I have no doubt that God is good. He gave me Dylan and a job I adore. :) And with that said, we hope you enjoy this little recap of 2010, and the people and moments which made it so beautiful.
